The ban on SUPs will cover all products that are partially or fully made of plastic and that have not been developed for repeated use. ‘Plastic’ means all types of plastic, including bio-(based) plastics, such as PLA and PBS. There will be a total ban on plastic cutlery, drinking straws, plates, stirrers, EPS cups and EPS meal boxes.Other (partially) plastic items, including drinks cups and single portion to-go packaging, will be subject to a so-called ‘policy of discouragement’: Companies will be ‘forced’ to seek out (reusable) alternatives to these products.
The SUP ban is making us look at packaging in a new way. On the one hand we must seek out alternative materials. At the same time packaging must be (re)designed in such a way that it is suitable for repeated use and/or recycling. It is also important that used packaging is collected and processed correctly. Chain-collaboration is essential for this. With the LET'S TALK ABOUT #plastic campaign we are going to tackle the ‘plastic challenge’ together with suppliers, clients and end-users. By continuously talking to each other we will keep abreast of what is happening and can respond to market developments effectively and in good time. Together we can turn challenges into opportunities. Follow us and talk to us via Instagram and LinkedIn.
